My name is Roxy Crane and I am 17 years old. I study Media and Communication at the Nimeto in Utrecht. I am in my last year of my accelerated MBO course. I like to be creative and to learn and experience many new things, that’s why the idea of an internship abroad. This has been a big dream of mine for years. From the moment I knew that my education offered this, I started to look into it. Because who wouldn’t want an unforgettable experience abroad?
Internship abroad
As I said, an internship abroad has been a big dream of mine for many years. I am a very independent person so living alone in a foreign country for five months would not be a problem for me. I think my parents find it more exciting than I do. I don’t suffer from homesickness at all and I am an enterprising person. I am always open to new experiences and challenges, that is also my goal in life. If you always stay in your safe zone, you won’t get anywhere. That is why an internship abroad is a unique opportunity. I grab that opportunity with both hands.
Málaga
But why do I really want to go to Málaga? Apart from the fact that Málaga has a wonderful temperature in the winter period, it also seems to me to be a great experience to live and work in Spain. It’s a new challenge that can seem scary, but it’s definitely unforgettable. You get to know a new culture, place and people.
I also think that you look at a city very differently when you are there on your own than when you go on holiday with your parents for a week. What makes me even more enthusiastic is all the good stories I hear from the people around me about Málaga. The more stories I hear and read, the more I want to go there. Some people even say that Málaga is the new Barcelona and that it has become one of the hippest destinations in Europe. So very promising!
Covid-19
Unfortunately my dream fell apart due to corona and this really pisses me off. I’ve been looking forward to this for years and it was canceled in no time. My school has decided that I am not allowed to do an internship abroad with code orange. If it turns yellow, this is of course allowed again, but when this will happen is still the question. It can take a week but also two or three months. Fortunately, I can do an online internship at Jongleren.es, which is super nice! I can do almost as much work digitally as in Spain.
All I can do now is hope for code yellow and make my online internship a fun and educational time. And who knows, I can still make my dream come true in a few weeks. Because the persistence wins!
