When I heard stories from a friend about doing an internship abroad, I immediately knew that I wanted to experience it myself. I got in touch with my connect coach and informed him about my interest, and through some email exchanges with another student, I ended up discovering JongLeren.es. I contacted JongLeren.es and soon had an intake interview. After some deliberation, I decided to go ahead with them.
I quickly established contact with a potential internship company, a coworking space, and during the job interview, it felt right from the start. That’s when everything became official, and I knew I had to start preparing to live in Málaga for 5 months. I never really felt any anxiety or hesitation about leaving familiar Netherlands for such a period. This was probably because I knew I was socially adept.
Upon arrival in Málaga, I immediately met my three Dutch housemates, and the connection was excellent right away. A week later, the last housemate arrived, and the connection was also great. However, of course, you want to get to know more people than just your housemates, so in the beginning, we were often present at parties/meetings/gatherings. After three weeks, we had formed a nice circle of friends.
Besides all the fun activities, I, of course, have my internship during weekdays, and here too, I am very satisfied. I was warmly welcomed and immediately put to work. At my internship company, I mainly focus on the company’s social media marketing, but I also participate in events hosted by the company. Because every day looks different, it definitely doesn’t get boring.
Currently, I am halfway through my internship period, and I can say that I haven’t regretted a single moment. I am very glad that I stepped a bit out of my comfort zone and took this opportunity. The combination of the weather, the lifestyle, and the people I’ve met here makes this period ideal!
